Great review, as usual. I have all four of the Voigtländer APO lenses (35, 50, 65 and 110) and they are all FANTASTIC with none of the LOCA issues seen with the 50 f/1.0. All the best.
well I'm sold! Excellent video and extremely helpful
Glad it was helpful!😊🖖🏻
A system ive never used, and a camera thats really interesting! great video, jealous you got to try the Z6iii :D
Hah! And I’m envious of your camera ops chops! 👊🏻
Yup! I’m ordering one tomorrow… After a LOT of research (RUclips promos) and this fits my niche… I have three Sonys; A1 and two FX3s and I have two Ninjas… The problem is the A1 has overheated on every shoot so there is no point getting another Ninja if I can’t record on it w/o overheating the Alpha. Not a problem, the A1 is my ‘context’, and the FX3s do the close work… for the most part, I can shut down the A1 when doing coverage with my Ninjas My main goal is to have - three - Monitors on a bracket so I can see what the THREE cameras see as I walk around my set and tweak the lighting and Manniquins that I use as stand-ins w/o having the Talent or crew on set so I can work at MY pace! So, if the transmitter works well enough in my iPad (for Context) then I just need two transmitters on my FX3s to (I assume) those two addition monitors…. with the Ninjas plumbing in the 4K HDMI into the transmitters. No one has been asking for ProRes (yet) as the Sony Cinelog is gud enuff) but IF I get that requirement… I can live with the Alpha merely putting out 4K/8K context in ‘spurts’ while the FX3 / Ninjas do the work with those Shoot-saving FANS!!!
There’s no point using a mirror reflex CAT lens if you don’t enjoy the doughnut bokeh, Hugh. The magic only happens when you shoot specifically for the doughnuts. Look at your shot at 2:19, the wispy “bokeh” is perfect. The doughnuts enhance this lovely image of yours. Shot on a regular prime lens it would have been another ho-hum street photo, nothing special. The mirror lens has turned it into a magic shot. Me? I’d enlarge the image, frame it and hang it on a prominent wall.
I've found the use of this lens when shooting watches and products, I can get close enough to the subject, there is no chromatic aberration, razor sharp and universal use for travel. I preferred this to the 2.8 zoom, which is usually heavier and larger. Thanks for the great video and photos
I love this guy, how can you make a simple recommendation vid so relatable, personal and funny.
Nice video! Did you get the chance to play with the 35mm voitglander f2 apo lanthar? I'm trying to decide between the 2 for the nikon zf
I bought the APO Lanthar 35/2. Very sharp, although CA correction not quite as good wide open as I expected it to be. Still: a great lens.
@@3BMEP between the Typoch and the apo, what say you?
I recently shot a personal event producing jpgs and thought while not bad, i prefer raw and the latitude it gives me in playing when the final product
Agreed. Claudia and I shoot raw.
focal length is highly depends on personal taste and shooting style, for me, 50mm 1.8 is a lens I will never spend another penny on again. instead of last lens I will ever buy, it's more like the last last I will ever consider buying.
Fair enough, although I think you may have missed my primary point.
It's certainly a good job that the young photographers of today don't have all the limitations (which were normal for us of a certain, pre digital) which we had we had when film was the only option.
Hello Hugh or Claudia! Excellent and extremely helpful information about the G9 II camera. Do you know if they are planning to add to the Lumix Sync app the fixture of exporting raw pictures to Mobil devices? Or when the IOS accept those raw pictures from the G9 II. On my first picture on my new g9 II that I took I was able to import that raw picture to my iPad ( only one). How this can be possible ? I love raw pictures , however I can’t transfers those into my Mobil devices. Thanks for your assistant ! Best from Puerto Rico and keep sharing your knowledge and experience with all of us.
I don’t know, but I DO know that Panasonic’s @seanrobinson is a terrific resource; try reaching out to him directly.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. For many reasons just what I needed to hear right now - not just from the point of view of making a camera purchase - but for your incidental overview of the sweep of history and the ebb and flow of light in the 20th century and beyond. For reasons I won't bore you with right now, it was just what I needed to hear. With deep gratitude for your intelligence, effort and attention to detail.
You are so welcome, Michael. So happy that you found it helpful.
50-140 The lack of subject separation made me avoid this lens...
Thanks for making good content. Did you try GFX with Crown Graflex 4x5?
I just purchased Fuji's new "kit lens" , the 16-50mm 2.8-4.8 lens for my X-T5, my travel camera. I was very impressed at how sharp this lens is! Fujifilm's engineers are obviously working hard at improving their lens lineup for the 40 megapixel sensor. Thank you for your excellent video of this Viltrox lens! It will be a tough choice for me to choose between the 90mm f/2 and the Viltrox.
😊🙏🏻🖖🏻
Hugh B; the intersection of Art, intelligence and commerce.👍🏾 I’m getting one, keeping my 6ii as a backup and going out and having fun with my Zf!🔥
😊🙏🏻🖖🏻
Have a Viltrox 85mm F1.8 that I love but was surprised that when I chopped in my Sony kit none of the dealer, resellers I normally trade with would even quote on the Viltrox? I was already investing in a Megadap to fit my G-Master 135 f1.8 SO kept and use the Viltrox regularly for candid and face in the crowd work , lovely results and more than comparable with OEM *5's Ive had in the past at half the price.
A7IV is about two years old, A7V will be announced in some months - the AF of A7CII ist already better and A7V will improve further. I am doing seldom fast sports, or wildlife, so no need for a fast camera like the Z6III.
Hi Hugh - thanks for this insightful video. I'm weighing up the purchase of a camera getting back into street and travel photography - and have a loyalty to the red dot from back before kids and when life was more discretionary. Hoping for your opinion now 1 year on from this video - does the Q Typ 116 or Q-P offer the same value proposition vs. the forthcoming D-Lux 8 (which I'm on the waitlist for but tentative about given a used Q is essentially on par price wise in the current market). Any help massively appreciated.
Hold that thought for another week or so, but I’d say don’t give up your place on the waitlist 😎.
Have any of the issues that can be fixed (as mentioned in the video) in firmware actually been fixed?
Any updated thoughts on the system now that the 3rd generation mic is out?
Did you manage to find out why the camera/lens doesn't stop down past F/6.3? Sorry if I missed that in the video.
It stops down past f/6.3, it just doesn’t change the depth of field preview past 6.3. But no, I don’t yet have an answer from Nikon even though I mentioned it to our rep.
awesome but will you make a video on the GFX100Sii
Z8 or Q3?
the Nikon Z6III is pretty much everything i hoped the Sony A7IV would be. i never understood why Sony went for a higher MP sensor, and approved for every compromise that came due to it, instead of keeping a 24 MP resolution and improving every other feature. just waiting now to see what the A7V may bring.
I own both the Nikon Z system and the Fuji X system. I shoot a lot in the dark theaters and I prefer the 24 megapixel full frame sensors. The Z6II was a very good camera (for stills) but it wasn't quite there yet for my needs. The Z6III looks very promising and a big improvement over the Z6II, but I still need a quiet mechanical shutter like the Fuji cameras do. My Z9 is way more than I need and its 45 megapixel shows noise at iso 3200, whereas my Z6II was clean at iso 6400. The electronic shutter on the Z9 with the stacked sensor works quite well in the theater, except for some annoying banding issues (another plus for the Fuji). This main issue for me is the mechanical shutter of the Z6III quiet enough not to disturb the audience in the theaters. The Z6III is beautiful camera at a reasonable price. The Z6III would be a no-brainer for me except for the shutter noise issue.
Thanks for sharing!
We need to remind ourselves that a 40 megapixel sensor in an aps-c format camera is the equivalent of a 90 megapixel sensor in a full frame camera, which is massive! Obviously, Fuji was looking into the future. It is going to take time and patience on our part for Fuji's new generation of lenses to be released.
Do you recommend the 25 mm or 38 mm
Depends on what and how you shoot, but my kit consists of the 25V, 45P and 90V - this is a better match for my street work. Then again, the 38V as your ONLY lens could be GREAT.
I never switched from Nikon, never believed the end of the world prophets telling Nikon would die
I think this will be my next lens. This or the 45mm tilt shift to pair with my 24mm(adapted canon lens but manual focus so who gives a rip,) and 85mm tilt shift lenses. BTW If i had your voice I'd make a mint reading scripts that other people wrote but alas, i was born with a voice for silent film and a face for radio. 😂😂😂
Im a tamrac guy. Best value, but more recently I want something that can also pass as a normal bag and also that doesn’t feel made out of plastic fabric. I’m going to try Billingham next
Wish they bring the price point to Zf its a tard expensive and am sure Sony 7iv is already been round
Canon and Sony just undercut Nikon by about $1500-$1600aud in Australia with their equivalent bodies... and unless shown otherwise, Z6iii autofocus is still not as snappy as R6ii and A7iv... oh Nikon... the wait for you is over
Interesting; not here in the U.S.
Raw will increase latitude and color information (always welcome for any creator/videographer), and it is compressed RAW! The normal (not high) RAW mode on my Z8 is only slightly higher bitrate than ProRes LT, and with a near negligible quality difference to the high mode. Meaning, it's far more accessible than portrayed in this video. CFexpress B cards are also getting cheaper. I bought an Angelbird 1TB for $200, very recently.
May I marry you! ?
I don't know how you do it sir, but your delivery is riveting. As an original Z6 owner that have been considering the Zf as an upgrade I am certainly interested in what you have to say about the Z6 3 but that seems ancillary to the amazing delivery of your monologue.
Thank you for your kind words, Antonio!
Your voice and how you narrated through this video is so captivating! Well said sir!
Much appreciated!🖖
There's a lot of things to love but lets be real here... The A7S3 is 4 years old and this new Nikon is essentially just matching it, minus the 6K 60 raw. The slow motion is the same. N RAW is outdated and lacking in dynamic range and the no redundant recording option is a dealbreaker right off the bat. BUT it is def a step in the right direction and for any new buyer that isn't locked into a system, this is a fantastic camera. 6K 60 is amazing but I think you're limited to NRAW.
I chose this as my primary lens for the s9 (the most controversial camera 😂)
The camera is a bit heavy 🤔but Lumix chose full frame for their lighter S9
Z6iii or zf?
I’m just here for the dramatic pauses and story telling…it’s like if Shakespeare did camera reviews.
Hello Claudia and Hugh! The is obviously a very video-centric camera, and I don’t shoot any video. For a passionate amateur photographer, would you recommend a Z7II, or the new Z6iii. I would love the Z8, but it is far too much camera for my needs, and too expensive.
Hey, Broch! If you don’t need the resolution, autofocus for stills alone may be reason enough to go Z6 III. But Claudia loved her Z7 II as you may recall. Although she has since migrated to a Sony a7C R for much of what she does, a Leica SL3 for the rest!
❤❤❤
How is it possible to assess the focus capability let alone their relationship to other cameras by only shootong street?
You can't, and I made this point in the video.
specubation hahah yes...thats why I love my M8 and the D700
😉🖖🏻
I'm really enjoying your RUclips videos. I've been searching for this answer but haven't seen an answer. How does the viewfinder (EVF) compare between the GFX50S II and the new GFX100S II? I've been very disappointed in the EVF on the 50SII, where the quality is so poor that it's practically impossible to manually focus a lens through the EVF. I'm curious if/how much better the 100SII is in comparison. Should a person upgrade in this scenario?
